Nile Crystal · Cairo
Two hours on Nile Crystal's Opal: an open buffet, a live band, a tanoura dancer and a belly dancer, then the open-air deck for the city lights. Pick it for the balance: a modern boat with a deck worth standing on, and hotel pickup only if you want it.

Nile Crystal runs four dinner boats from one marina gate in Cairo: Opal, Topaz, Turquoise and Onyx. Each sells on GetYourGuide as a separate listing with its own name and price, and the evening follows the same pattern on all of them. You board, eat from the buffet while a band plays, watch the shows and finish up on deck. Opal is the one we'd book. It's the cheapest of the four, and the listing is clear about what you get: the 2-hour cruise, an open buffet of Egyptian and international dishes, live music, the tanoura and belly dance, two bottles of water per booking, and all taxes and service charges.
The tanoura is the act people talk about afterwards. A male dancer spins for minutes on end in layered, brightly coloured skirts, then lifts one over his head and twirls it above the tables. Tanoura is Arabic for skirt, and the dance grew out of Sufi whirling before Egyptian performers added the colour, the lights and the drums (Egyptian Streets has the history). The belly dancer follows. The listing warns that entertainment can vary by night, so don't book for one particular act.
Two caveats. You won't see the pyramids: Giza sits on the desert plateau west of the city, and no Cairo dinner boat gets anywhere near it. And the hotel pickup from Cairo or Giza is an add-on you must choose when you book, not a default. If you want the transfer in the price and a guide at your side, the Emo Tours dinner cruise includes both. If what you really want is a multi-day cruise, those ships sail between Luxor and Aswan, far to the south; see the 4-day package from Cairo.
Find the Nile Crystal Gate at the marina. The listing asks you to arrive 15 to 20 minutes before departure. With the pickup add-on, a driver brings you there from your hotel.
Board, find your table and settle in. The boat pulls away from the marina at departure time.
The buffet opens with Egyptian and international dishes while the band plays. Vegetarian options are there if you asked for them when booking.
The tanoura dancer takes the floor and spins, skirts flying. The belly dancer comes next.
Climb to the open-air deck for the bridges and hotel towers lit up along the river. This is the best light of the night for photos.
The boat returns to the same gate. Pickup guests meet their driver for the ride back to the hotel.

Same operator, different boats. All four belong to Nile Crystal and leave from the Nile Crystal Gate at the same marina. The format is the same (buffet, live music, shows, open deck), and the prices differ only slightly. The Opal is the cheapest of the four.
Only if you add it. The listing offers pickup and drop-off from Cairo or Giza as an option you must select when booking. Without it, you make your own way to Nile Crystal Gate, 15 to 20 minutes before departure.
No. The boat stays on the city stretch of the river, and the Giza pyramids stand on the desert plateau to the west. For pyramids, book a day trip like Sakkara, Memphis and Dahshur and keep the river for the evening.
Two bottles of water per booking are included. Other drinks are extras you pay for on board, and gratuities are not included either.
